Brief Introduction / History

Veterinary Research & Disease Investigation Center (VR&DIC) D.I. Khan formerly known as Veterinary Research & Disease Diagnosis Laboratory (VR&DDL) was established in 1986-87 as a developmental project and in 1987-88  it was converted into non-developmental side.

VR&DDL was upgraded to VR&DIC D.I. Khan an d is under the direct control of Directorate General (Research) Livestock & Dairy Development Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

This station has two sub centers:

1. Veterinary Research Center Lakki Marwat.
2. Veterinary Research Center, Tank.

Mandates / Objectives

This center has the following mandates:

1. Problem oriented Research on various issues related to livestock & poultry population of district D.I. Khan.
2. Provision of diagnostic services to farmer community and Govt: organizations in its jurisdiction through processing of samples of fecal, milk, blood and skin scrapping.
3. To conduct poultry post-mortems for diagnosis of various viral, bacterial and parasitic diseases.
4. Provision of vaccines to farmers community of district D.I. Khan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank and adjacent districts of South & North Waziristan for control of like deadly diseases of livestock and poultry.
5. Provision of advisory services to livestock and poultry farmers regarding various farming and nutritional aspects of livestock and poultry business.
6. To conduct postmortem examination of large and small ruminants of the area for proper diagnosis of disease / cause of death.
7. Joint collaboration with NGOs and Donor Funded Area Development Programs for the enhancement of livestock & Poultry productivity.
8. Data collection for the research projects held at Peshawar.
9. Provision of internship facility to the internees of Gomal College of Veterinary Sciences, Gomal University D.I. Khan.
10. Extension of research oriented support to the M.Phils / M.Sc scholars of Gomal University D.I. Khan.

Mission / Vision

The mission and vision of the center is to control most fatal and contagious diseases of livestock and poultry through vaccination and early vaccination and early diagnosis and insuring disease free livestock and by-products of livestock like (milk, meat and poultry meat) and in this way improving the socio-economical condition of the poor farmers of the area.
